Dr Janan Chandrananth is a foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon consulting from the Collaborative Orthopaedic Group rooms in Mulgrave and Berwick, with knee and trauma work alongside his subspecialty. Referrals are welcome from GPs, physiotherapists and podiatrists.

Please include a contact number for the patient, any relevant imaging or where it was performed, and current medications. Reception will call the patient directly to arrange the appointment.
Urgent referrals
For an acute injury, or a patient who needs to be seen quickly, call reception on (03) 9123 4402 and ask for a priority appointment rather than sending the referral through and waiting. Time is kept aside each week for urgent cases.
How quickly your patient will be seen
Most new patients are offered an appointment within about two weeks. If your patient needs to be seen sooner than that, please call — reception can usually find something earlier.
What you’ll receive back
You’ll receive a letter after the initial consultation covering the assessment, the imaging reviewed or requested, and the management plan. Patients who proceed to surgery have follow-up appointments and a rehabilitation plan. If you’d rather discuss a patient by phone, please note it on the referral with a contact number.

Surgery is performed at Mulgrave Private, St John of God Berwick, Knox Private and Vermont Private. Dr Janan Chandrananth also has a public appointment at Peninsula University Hospital (Frankston).
What to refer
Foot and ankle is Dr Chandrananth’s subspecialty: bunions and keyhole bunion surgery, ankle sprains and instability, ankle fractures, and ankle arthritis. He also treats knee arthritis, meniscal tears, ACL injury and patella instability, and orthopaedic trauma including fractures in children, having completed a paediatric training at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland.
If you’re unsure whether a problem sits within his scope, call reception — quicker than a referral that has to be redirected.
What your patient will pay
Fees are published in full on the patient fees page, so you can tell your patient what to expect before they leave your room. If cost is a barrier for a particular patient, mention it on the referral.
Referring as a physiotherapist or podiatrist
Physiotherapists and podiatrists are welcome to refer directly, and will receive the same correspondence as a referring GP. One point worth passing to your patient: Medicare rebates for a specialist consultation apply when the referral comes from a medical practitioner. If your patient intends to claim, please ask them to see their GP to issue a referral as well.
