Berwick Consulting Rooms — Spine & Orthopaedic Centre

Dr Janan Chandrananth consults in Berwick at the Spine & Orthopaedic Centre (SAOC) on Langmore Lane, a few minutes from St John of God Berwick, where he operates. He grew up in neighbouring Beaconsfield, and the Berwick rooms exist so that patients from Casey and Cardinia — Berwick, Beaconsfield, Officer, Pakenham, Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Clyde — can be seen and treated close to home rather than driving into Mulgrave.

Consulting days

Dr Janan consults in Berwick on Fridays. If you need to be seen sooner than the next Friday, the Mulgrave rooms (Mondays and Wednesdays) can usually see you earlier; recent fractures and other urgent injuries are prioritised at both sites. Bookings are taken Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 5 pm, on (03) 9123 4402.

Getting here

Parking

There is underground parking at the building, and extensive parking in the Coles car park directly across the lane. Allow a few extra minutes if you are in a boot or on crutches.

Public transport

Berwick railway station (Pakenham line), on Clyde Road, is a short walk from the building.

Access

The rooms are on Level 2 and there is a lift. Wheelchairs and crutches are fine.

What happens at the Berwick rooms

  • Consultations for foot and ankle, knee and trauma problems in adults and children: first visits, second opinions and post-operative reviews.

  • Children's injuries. Dr Janan treats fractures and growth-plate injuries in children, and these are seen quickly.

  • Wound checks after injury or surgery.

Casts, boot fittings, the procedure room, physiotherapy and the other COG specialists are at the Mulgrave rooms; if you need them, reception will book you there or arrange a physiotherapist near you.

Before your appointment

Bring your referral letter, any X-rays or scans and their reports, your Medicare card and private health fund details, and a list of your medications. If you have completed the online registration form beforehand, you can go straight in on arrival. The initial consultation page explains what to expect, and consultation and surgical fees are on the fees page.

Surgery from Berwick

Patients seen in Berwick who need an operation are usually booked at St John of God Berwick on Kangan Drive, so that surgery, the hospital stay and the first review all happen locally. Mulgrave Private is the alternative if it suits you or your health fund better. Follow-up appointments can be in Berwick or Mulgrave, whichever suits you.

Booking and referrals

Book by calling (03) 9123 4402, emailing admin@cogsurgery.com.au, or using the request an appointment form, and ask for Berwick. A referral from your GP or another doctor is needed to claim the Medicare rebate. GPs can refer by HealthLink (cogsurge) or Medical-Objects — see the referrals page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to be seen in Berwick?

You can book without one, but a current referral from a GP or another doctor is needed for Medicare to pay a rebate on the consultation.

If I am seen in Berwick, where would my surgery be?

Usually St John of God Berwick, a few minutes from the rooms. Mulgrave Private Hospital is the other option.

Is Berwick a full clinic or just a consulting session?

It is a regular consulting session in shared specialist rooms. Everything to do with your appointment — bookings, results, letters, accounts — is handled by the COG rooms on (03) 9123 4402, not by the centre's own reception.

Can I be seen in Berwick one time and Mulgrave the next?

Yes. Your file is the same at both sites, so you can come to whichever is closer or sooner, including for follow-up after surgery.

Is there parking?

Yes. There is parking underground at the building, and plenty more in the Coles car park across the lane.
