The Collaborative Orthopaedic Group's main rooms are on Springvale Road in Mulgrave, in Melbourne's south-east. This is where Dr Janan Chandrananth sees most of his foot and ankle, knee and trauma patients, and where the rest of the group consults: four consulting rooms, a procedure room, and physiotherapy in the same rooms so that a boot fitting or a first set of exercises can happen on the day.

Consulting days and hours
Dr Janan consults at Mulgrave on Mondays and Wednesdays. The rooms are open Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 5 pm, for phone calls, registration and questions about your appointment.
New patients are usually seen within one to two weeks. Fractures and other urgent injuries are seen sooner: call the rooms and say the injury is recent. Children are welcome, and children's injuries are prioritised.
Getting here
Parking
On-site parking is at the front of the building, off Springvale Road. If those spaces are full, there is street parking on the side streets nearby. If you are in a moon boot or on crutches, park as close to the entrance as you can and let reception know if you need a hand.
Public transport
The 902 SmartBus runs along Springvale Road and stops a short walk from the rooms. The nearest train stations are Glen Waverley and Springvale, both a bus or taxi ride away.
Access
The rooms are at ground level with step-free access from the car park. Wheelchairs and crutches are no problem, and there is room to sit and wait if you arrive early.
What happens at the rooms
Consultations with Dr Janan for foot and ankle, knee and orthopaedic trauma problems in adults and children, from first visit through to post-operative reviews.
Casts, boot fittings and wound checks after injury or surgery, with a procedure room on site for minor procedures.
Physiotherapy in the rooms. Integrated Health physiotherapists consult at COG on Wednesdays, mainly for patients recovering from surgery: boot fittings, early exercise plans and ongoing rehabilitation.
Other specialists. An upper limb surgeon and a perioperative physician also consult from these rooms, so a patient who needs a hand or shoulder opinion, or a medical assessment before surgery, can often be seen in the same building.
Before your appointment
Bring your referral letter, any X-rays or scans and their reports (or the details of where they were done), your Medicare card and private health fund details, and a list of your medications. Wear or bring shorts if the problem is in your knee. If you have already completed the online registration form, you can go straight in on arrival. Surgery from Mulgrave
Patients seen at Mulgrave who need an operation are most often booked at Mulgrave Private Hospital on Blanton Drive, close to the rooms. Dr Janan also operates at St John of God Berwick, Knox Private and Vermont Private, so the hospital can be chosen to suit where you live and your health fund. Follow-up appointments can be at Mulgrave or Berwick, whichever suits you.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to be seen at Mulgrave?
You can book without one, but a current referral from a GP or another doctor is needed for Medicare to pay a rebate on the consultation. If you have been referred by a physiotherapist or podiatrist, the rooms will explain how to get a GP referral as well.
